The US and its allies imposed a barrage of sanctions against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24. The sanctions included prevention of sale of military equipment including microchips. However, Ukraine says it found foreign microchips, especially those made in the US, in captured Russian military equipment. Experts say this raises serious questions about Russia’s ability to produce technological components for its war machine. Experts say it is also concerning how sensitive Western technology can still end up in Russia despite strict US export controls.
